Taking practice exams
Practice exams are available if you want to prepare for the exam. They help you assess whether you are ready for the actual exam.
What you need
To take the practice exams you will need:
- a desktop or laptop computer
- an internet connection
Your computer must have Windows (XP and above), Mac OS X (10.2 PPC and above) or Linux (RedHat 7.3 and above) installed. If you're using a desktop computer, connect a microphone or use a headset with a built in microphone.
The actual exam looks different from the practice exam.
Knowledge of Dutch Society (KNS)
The KNS practice exam contains 5 questions. The real exam contains 30 questions and takes 30 minutes to complete.
During the exam, you will see photographs and be asked questions. The questions are read aloud slowly. For each question, you will be shown 2 possible answers. Select the correct answer by clicking it with the mouse.
All KNS exam questions and answers are printed in the photo book, which you can read at home. It is included in the self-study package.
Reading
The Reading practice exam is similar to the actual exam. Both exams contain 19 questions and take 35 minutes to complete. The only difference is the content of the questions.
The Reading exam consists of texts followed by questions. First, you read a short text. Then you answer the questions. After completing the practice exam, you can review which questions you answered correctly.
Speaking
The Speaking practice exam is similar to the real exam. Both exams contain 22 questions and take 30 minutes. The only difference is the content of the questions.
The Speaking practice exam contains:
- 10 questions that you have to answer, and
- 12 sentences that you have to complete.
You should speak your answers into the microphone. After the exam, it will not be possible to see which questions you answered correctly.
